St Dubricius Parish Church

Church of St. Dubricius

St Dubricius Parish Church

St Dubricius’ Church has stood for centuries in the centre of the village of Porlock. Its distinctive spire is visible for miles around, and many tourists come to visit it. A guidebook detailing its history is available in the church.

The church is not just a tourist attraction, but also the centre of our Christian community, used for many activities, and offering a warm welcome to visitors, as well as a peaceful oasis for quiet and reflection.

Holy Communion serviceThe traditional sung Holy Communion service is held twice a month at 10.30am. This picture shows the Rector and some of the choir. One Sunday a month, we have Morning Prayer, often led by our Reader, Rosemary. The fourth Sunday, we have an ecumenical service, run by Porlock Churches Together, either at St. Dubricius' or at the Methodist Church. We call this service "Celebrate Together".

All Age serviceThis is our 'Celebrate Together' service. As well as being less formal, it is usually shorter, and tries to find an active role for children in the service. In this picture the service is being held in the school hall, because the church was occupied by a swarm of bees!

Messy ChurchEvery third Sunday in the month we get together with the Methodists on Sunday afternoon for 'Messy Church' This is specially for parents with young children. It has games and activities, a short time of worship, and you get your tea. Your children won’t want to go home. Parents are not visible in this picture; they’re behind the camera.

Open DoorFirst and third Fridays in the month, we have Open Door in St Dubricius’, from 10.00 until 12.00 - Join us for coffee or tea and a chat.
